Pender Street rendering of Cressey Development's mixed-use project at 485 Commercial Drive.

Unity of Purpose
Cressey Development is proposing a mixed-use, four-storey building on the corner of Commercial Drive and East Pender Street, comprising residential, retail, and office units. Four discrete building blocks are gathered around an internal courtyard and constructed over one level of underground parking. The north and south blocks, located respectively along the laneway and East Pender, house 21 market townhomes and 10 studio condominiums. The east block fronting Commercial Drive consists of two ground floor retail stores, six offices, and 10 rental apartments. The site is well-served by several public transit lines along Commercial Drive and Hastings Street, and is within walking distance to shops and restaurants along both of those arteries.

Developer Team for 485 Commercial
After 40 years in the business, Vancouver-based Cressey has remained committed to the pursuit of superior design and quality construction. From conception to completion, every Cressey-built space is the result of extensive collaboration by a team of leading industry professionals and highly experienced development and construction personnel. This collaborative process leads to thoughtful attention to detail, numerous landmark buildings as well as industry awards from the Urban Development Institute, Canadian Home Builders Association of BC, and others.

Gair Williamson Architects was founded in 2002 and has since been focused on urban densification and a concern for the city as a repository of cultural memory. They believe densification in inner city neighborhoods leads to deeper social interaction and civic accountability. Their work strives to unite the often opposing interests of the community and developer, and the conflicting priorities of the art of architecture and the economics of the marketplace. Of particular interest to the firm are critical explorations into the larger social and cultural issues pertaining to the architecture of affordable housing and a reconsideration of the 21st century workplace.
