Bicycle Commuting in Beautiful Vancouver Just Got Easier!

One of the reasons Vancouver real estate prices are as high as they are is due to the successful city planning that has resulted in livable comfortable density (Sometimes referred to as Vancouverism). This density has allowed Vancouver to be unique in North America with a few exceptions in allowing a large percentage of residents to comfortably walk, bike, or take transit to work.

I have decided to prepare commute to work by bike and here’s why:

  1. I don’t get HALF the exercise I need and its beginning to show!
  2. Its good for the environment and the pocket book
  3. Driving, normally painful activity in Vancouver, has gotten worse.

Here’s what I came up with.

The City of Vancouver has recently prioritized walking, cycling and then public transit over the evil old internal combustion powered automobile. Given Vancouver’s mild winters and relative density more and more people are deciding to commute by bike to work including myself! In my research on bike commuting I found two great resources for those looking to bike to work.

Online Cycling Route Planner

When I started thinking about commuting to work by bike (and leaving my car at the office for real estate showings) I was concerned about riding on busy streets with lots of cars.

Here is a link to Cycle Vancouver’s Cycling Route Planner which I think is the coolest thing since sliced bread! You simply input your location and the destination you want to go to and the system will automatically map out route that uses the City’s Designated Bikeways so you don’t have to ride on streets busy with car traffic. It is even possible to choose the least polluted route or the route with the smallest hills.

A Slick Ride for the Commute

I also want to look good when I ride to work and a good friend of mine Justin Jung from Beats and Bikes was kind enough to bring down one of the bikes his company distributes, the Base Urban FX 1.0 which I think is gorgeous!
