There are four main public schools and two private schools in South Surrey, but the district covers all Surrey schools. The school district in Surrey is comprised of 103 elementary schools, 20 secondary schools, an online learning program, and several other centres. District 36 is the largest geographic district in the area, and is large in numbers as well. The district employs approximately 6,400 teachers as well, making it one of Surrey’s larger employers.

According to District 36 statistics, more than 150 languages in addition to English are spoken in Surrey public schools. In fact, more than half of the students in Surrey speak a language other than English at home. After English, the most common languages spoken among the student population are Punjabi, Tagalog, Mandarin, Hindi, and Arabic.
